they should liscense parents and dog owners

Today our security guard asked me if it was okay to board her 8 week old puppy
someone gave her as a present for three months, or until she moved into another
apartment that would take dogs.

A eight week old puppy shouldn’t be away from his mom and littermates, let alone sent to a kennel where it may or may not be socialized with other dogs or people.

I said give the puppy back.

I can’t believe that people do this.

Good advice. So many dogs are maladjusted for just those reasons! Bad timing on her part, but at least she asked you.

At this age pups NEED to be with their "pack" and not in a BLEEP BLEEP kennel. It's a criical socialisation phase.

I agree, you should need to pass a test to be a parent OR a dog owner. I'd gladly pay a large license fee for each of mine if it meant less suitable people did not get dogs.

I've had people here giving up their dogs because
1) there is a baby on the way (that one seriously pisses me off)
2) they had a younger dog and did not want the old one any more
3) the puppies peed after they drank water(seriously)
4) a foster returned, they wanted a second dog beacuse their first was so shy, then returned the second dog because it was leading their first dog astray.
5) the dog grew too big (that was KuBrin).

and so on.

You may have touched a raw nerve. (you think so?)

On the other hand I know lots of people take on the no-hopers and last chance dogs and they live out long and happy lives.

Humans, the good, the bad and the ugly.

grumph.

Wanting to board an 8 week old puppy for 3 months?????

What is wrong with people???

That is the most critical socialization period as kerrio said.

I hope she takes the puppy back

What kind of security guard position pays well enough to board a dog for eight weeks?
There is something seriously amiss with this whole thing.

That is what I was thinking as well. They make pretty good money as far as I can tell.

Frankly, I have been avoiding her like the plague, getting more exercise that way.

Not to run this into the ground, but I think the boarding thing was just bullshit to get you to take the puppy , socialize it, save it and probably if the truth is known, keep it.
